Domestic Violence Assistance Center

Winnebago County Domestic Violence Assistance Center
(DVAC)

The Domestic Violence Assistance Center, also known as the DVAC, is a resource located on the third floor of the Winnebago County Courthouse to assist in the process of filing for an Order of Protection against an intimate partner. The DVAC houses Remedies Renewing Lives domestic violence advocates and State’s Attorney’s Victim Service Providers. These advocates specialize in a variety of services such as filing for an Order of Protection, safety planning, accompaniment in court, and referral to additional resources.

The way to the DVAC is marked with purple signs as well as teal overhead signs throughout the courthouse. After entering the courthouse and walking through security, take a left and follow the hallway until the Circuit Clerk’s Office is on the left-hand side. Follow the hallway on the right through both double doors that lead to traffic court. Take the elevator on the left to the third floor. Please ring the doorbell if no one is present at the desk and an advocate will assist you.

The DVAC is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and no appointment is necessary. Please note that DVAC is closed on all federal holidays and other days the courthouse is not open for business. You may contact a DVAC advocate by phone at (815) 516-2440 anytime between the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
