Marcia M. Meis, Director of the Administrative Office of Illinois Courts, and Eugene G. Doherty, Chief Judge of the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit Court, are pleased to announce that the 17th Circuit Judges have selected attorney Jennifer J. Clifford as Associate Judge of the 17th Judicial Circuit.  This associate judge vacancy was created as result of the retirement of Associate Judge Brian Dean Shore.  Ms. Clifford will take her oath of office on Monday, December 3, 2018.

Commenting on the selection, Chief Judge Eugene G. Doherty stated, “Ms. Clifford is a talented, respected, and experienced attorney.    Her extensive trial experience makes her a great fit in the courtroom, and her involvement in educational programming to advance the legal profession makes her particularly well suited for judicial office.  We look forward to her service as a judge in our circuit.”

“I am extremely honored and humbled by this appointment,” said Ms. Clifford.  “I have loved serving the people of the 17th Judicial Circuit as an Assistant State’s Attorney for the first 20 years of my career and will miss it greatly. However, I am excited about and appreciative of this new opportunity to continue to serve this community as an associate judge.”

Ms. Clifford received her undergraduate degree in Rhetoric and English from the University of Illinois in 1993, and her Juris Doctor from the University of Illinois in 1998.  Ms. Clifford’s legal career has been dedicated in the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office, where she has served as an Assistant State’s Attorney since 1998, and has held the position of Assistant Deputy State’s Attorney since 2013.

In addition to her regular caseload, Ms. Clifford has been responsible for organizing in-house trainings for the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office and has provided trainings for the Rockford Police Department, the Children’s Advocacy Centers of Illinois, and the Arc of Winnebago, Ogle and Boone Counties.   Since 2007, she has served as a faculty presenter at the statewide Basic Trial Advocacy Course presented by the Office of the Illinois Appellate Prosecutor.

Jennifer Clifford is a member of the Winnebago County Bar Association.  She has served as a volunteer mentor in connection with the Court’s Lawyer to Lawyer Mentoring Program. Her involvement with community and civic organizations include memberships on the Board of Directors of Winnebago County Kids’ Place from 2012 to present and the Arc of Winnebago, Boone and Ogle Counties from 2015 to present; she currently serves as the president of both of these non-profit organizations.
