The Winnebago County Juvenile Detention Center is a secure 48-bed facility housing minors between the ages of 10 – 20 who are awaiting proceedings in Juvenile, and in some circumstances, Adult Court. The detention center was built in 1992 and expanded to its current capacity in 1995. The Detention Center provides a variety of programming for the minors lodged there. District 205 teachers work with the youth on a core curriculum of academic. Outside volunteers and detention center staff supplement their formal education with career exploration, art and teaching a variety of life skills. Behavioral Health Services are provided to youth by qualified mental health professionals. Funding for the Reducing Isolation Through Behavioral Health Expansion was received through the Winnebago County Community Mental Health Board. All visits must be scheduled in advance.
