Winnebago County and Boone County Self-Help Centers |
|
Legal Self-Help Centers are now operating out of both the Winnebago County and Boone County Courthouses. As joint projects between the Court and Circuit Clerk Offices, these Legal Self-Help Centers provide internet based legal information to individuals who are not able to retain the services of an attorney for representation in court. These Legal Self-Help Center make available correct and current information on Illinois Law and court proceedings. A navigator is present during normal working hours to assist individuals with using the available computer and print resources.
Legal Self-Help Centers have been established in many states across the country to deal with the increasing number of self-represented litigants. Whereas these Legal Self-Help Centers are computer based, some materials can be accessed from any computer with internet access from the Illinois Legal Aid Online site (www.illinoislegalaid.org).
Self-Help Center navigators can direct you to reference materials and provide computer assistance. Be Advised, Navigators and employees of the Circuit Clerk’s Office cannot give out legal advice or tell you which forms to fill out. Following is a list of self-help manuals that are available in the Legal Self-Help Center.
