Michael J. Tardy, Director of the Administrative Office of Illinois Courts, and Joseph G. McGraw, Chief Judge of the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit Court, are pleased to announce that the 17th Circuit Judges voted to select local attorney Donald P. Shriver as Associate Judge of the 17th Judicial Circuit.  This Associate Judge vacancy was created by a recent amendment to the Associate Judges Act (P.A. 99-520).   Mr. Shriver will take his oath of office on Friday, March 3, 2017.

Commenting on the selection, Chief Judge Joseph G. McGraw stated, “Mr. Shriver is a well-respected attorney with twenty years of legal experience in both state and federal courts. His character and professional demeanor make him well suited for judicial office.  We look forward to his service as a judge within the Seventeenth Circuit Court.”

Mr. Shriver received his undergraduate degree in Economics, cum laude, from Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois in 1993.  In 1996, he received his Juris Doctor from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.

Mr. Shiver has been employed at the Law Offices of Shriver, O’Neill & Thompson since 2002. He has focused his practice on state and federal civil litigation, concentrating in areas of lien and mortgage foreclosure, contract disputes and real estate transactions.  

Mr. Shriver is a member of the Winnebago County Bar Association, Boone County Bar Association, and Illinois State Bar Association.   He is currently on the Assembly of the Illinois State Bar Association and has served on the ISBA Judicial Evaluations Committee, Real Estate Section Council, the Construction Law Section Council, and a Special Committee on the Future of the Courts.  He is the Vice Chair of the Winnebago County Bar Association Real Estate Section.

His involvement with community and civic organizations include serving on the Winnebago County Kids’ Place Board of Directors from 2006 to 2016, serving as the President of this non-profit organization from 2008 to 2016.   He is a trained and certified arbitrator for the 17th Circuit Court’s Mandatory Arbitration Program and has volunteered his time to serve as a mentor in connection with the court’s Lawyer to Lawyer Mentoring Program.
