Notice of Vacancy - 17th Circuit Associate Judge Print E-mail

Joseph G. McGraw, Chief Judge of the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit is pleased to announce that the Illinois Supreme Court has authorized the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit Court to post a notice of vacancy for an Associate Judgeship.  This vacancy is the result of the planned retirement of Associate Judge Fernando L. Engelsma, effective December 8, 2017.

Judge Engelsma was appointed as an Associate Judge on March 29, 2005.  He has been assigned in both Winnebago County and Boone County where he has presided over felony, juvenile delinquency, and juvenile abuse and neglect cases. Since February 2012, he has been assigned in the Felony Division in Winnebago County.

Judge Engelsma has presided over numerous complex criminal matters during his time on the bench.  He is a mindful and principled jurist who throughout his career has carried out his duties with great care and compassion as justice requires. As a judge who steadily upholds the dignity of judicial office, he will be missed by his fellow judges. An announcement as to a retirement reception for Judge Engelsma will be made at a later date.
